Career Opportunities
A student with an undergraduate degree in sociology
may secure entry level positions in areas such as business, social
services, government, health professions, the criminal justice system,
teaching, journalism and public relations.
A graduate degree in sociology (MA or Ph.D.) offers greater opportunities for teaching and research positions at the college and university levels. An advanced degree in sociology may enable one to compete for positions such as policy advisors/analysts, consultants, and program managers.
The American Sociological Association provides a wealth of information for the student interested in pursuing a degree in sociology. See Careers in Sociology, 4th Edition, 1995, American Sociological Association.
