Students taking psychology courses receive quality instructions from excellent professors. Psychology Discipline Committee members have a long tradition of working cooperatively in selection and development of the outstanding instructional and curriculum materials. All psychology faculty members are dedicated to student learning and are willing to offer individual help when requested.

For each psychology course offered, there is a list of core learning objectives developed to assure the quality of the course content. For PSYC2301, the list of the core concepts and learning objectives for the comprehensive departmental final exam is available online at each college’s department website. At Northwest College, for example, the list can be found at: http://nwc.hccs.edu/psyc/Final-Huffman.html. To help students to prepare for PSYC2301 final exam, most colleges conduct final exam review sessions.

Many faculty members have incorporated Internet or Web-CT into their instruction, providing support to students via e-mail and websites. For example, students can find advice for effective study at: http://nwc.hccs.edu/psyc/advice.html. In addition, students can view PowerPoint presentations for some major topics and theories of psychology at: http://nwc.hccs.edu/psyc/index.html.

Psychology students are also supported by the psychology student organizations such as Psi Beta (National Honor Society in Psychology for Community Colleges) and Psychology Clubs at some colleges. Psi Beta and the Psychology Club at Southwest College (Psi Kappa), for example, provide many social and academic activities for psychology students. These student activities, including guest lectures, field trips, community service, help foster a sense of community for students.
Psychology faculty members also cooperate with counselors in providing support to students. Psychology faculty members may alert the counselors of those students who are in need of individual attention and counseling. Psychology faculty members work with ADA counselors to provide special accommodation to the ADA students. At Northwest College, psychology faculty members encourage students to participate in the Career Workshop conducted by the counseling department.

All in all, psychology faculty members are committed to helping students succeed at HCCS and beyond.
