Psi Beta: the National Honor Society in Psychology for Community Colleges
Psi Beta is the National Honor Society in Psychology for Community and Junior Colleges. It is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. Psi Beta HCC Chapter was established in 1989. It has continuously served students throughout the system, initiating an average of 30 new students per year. In the past 13 years, student members have benefited from the mentoring by the faculty advisors. Informative presentations by guest speakers on current topics in the field and educational information presented by the representatives from local universities have expanded students’ knowledge of the career and educational choices. In addition, members have taken field trips as well as been involved in community service. Some of its members have moved on to complete advanced degrees in psychology and received recognition as “Alumni of the Year” for the system. They have come back and shared their knowledge of other universities with current members.
