Why should I choose Health and Fitness as a career?

 

The health and fitness field continues to be a booming industry.  The industry demand for individuals with health and fitness skills are currently being sought after.  Our students are employed due to their versatile educational background and technical training.  The program combines both the practical and theoretical aspects of the field.

 

What kind of degree can I earn?

You can earn a two-year associate degree or a one semester certificate in Health and Fitness.

 

Are there any requirements I must satisfy before I start taking courses?

The certificate program does not have any additional requirements for admission.  If you are working toward an associate degree, you must do the following:

 

  • ·        Complete the TSI exam or provide documentation supporting TSI Exemption or Waiver.
  • ·        Provide ACT, SAT, TAAS or TAKS scores.

 

How long will it take for me to complete this program?

The associate degree can be completed in two years.  The certificate can be completed in one semester.

 

What will I be able to do when I complete this program?

Our graduates are employed in a wide variety of health and fitness related positions.  Some of the specialty areas include commercial fitness clubs, personal training studios, YMCA’s, corporate wellness facilities, hospital wellness clinics, rehabilitation and physical therapy clinics, country clubs and aquatic centers.

 

What kind of salary can I expect?

Salaries can vary depending on position.  Personal trainers currently average $40 to $60 per hour.  Corporate and commercial clubs vary with entry-level salaries in the mid-twenties.
