Hour lessons may be divided into two 30-minute lessons per week by mutual consent of the student

MUSB 1301 LEGAL ASPECTS OF THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY – 3 Credits Syllabus
This class will cover topics such as copyright law, film contracts, production contracts, employment contracts, financing contracts, licenses, collaborations, options, and assignments. Employment relationships including union and non-union negotiations will also be covered. Students will deal with common business structures such as corporations, partnerships, limited partnerships, and others.

Introduction to the art of conducting including regular and irregular beat patterns, subdivision, and beat pattern varieties applied to musical literature and practical experience.
MUSC 1321 SONGWRITING – 3 Credits
Introduction to techniques of writing marketable songs including the writing of lyrics and melodies, setting lyrics to music, developing lyrical and musical ‘hooks,’ analyzing the marketplace, and developing a production plan for a song demo.

An overview of the Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) system and applications. Topics include the history and evolution of MIDI, hardware requirements, computer numbering systems, channels and modes, the MIDI language, and typical implementation of MIDI applications in the studio environment using software-based sequencing programs. MUSC 1427 AUDIO ENGINEERING I – 4 Credits
Overview of the recording studio. Topics include basic studio electronics and acoustic principles, waveform analysis, microphone design and placement techniques, studio set up and signal flow, recording console theory, signal processing concepts, tape machine principles and operation, and an overview of mixing and editing. Topics include synchronization, SMPTE time code, automated mix down, audio post production for video, nonlinear and traditional editing techniques, sound design, Foley stage work, sound effects and dialog sweetening or
replacement.

This advanced course in multi track recording emphasizes tracking skills using an SSL 4048 G+ mixing console. Students learn the console’s six modes of signal flow, routing strategies and the G+ computer’s locating and recall functions. Students are expected to record a variety of styles of music for their projects. Students are required to attend additional lab hours outside of class.
MUSC 2472 AUDIO ENGINEERING VI – 4 Credits

This advanced course in multi track recording emphasizes mixing using an SSL 4048 G+ console. Students learn the console’s automation computer, recall functions, on board dynamics, equalization, alternate signal paths, side chaining and additional auxiliary sends for out board processors and effects units. Students are required to attend additional lab hours outside of class.
