About
Welcome to the Department of Mathematics at Houston Community College! Our department is a mathematically exciting, friendly, and supportive environment where faculty take pride in their excellence in teaching. We encourage and enable students to understand the beauty, importance, and enjoyment of mathematics.
The objective of mathematics in the core curriculum is to develope a quantitatively literate college graduate. Every college graduate should be able to apply basic mathematical tools in the solution of real world problems.
Faculty members have extensive expertise in a wide variety of areas. This benefits our course offerings since we have a deep vision of how the mathematics taught is applied in both higher theory and applications. The Houston Community College Mathematics Department offers all courses necessary for completion of requirements needed for transfer to a major college or university. Preparation for a math or engineering career should begin in high school, as it requires a strong background in the fundamentals of mathematics and science. Our courses parallel those at major universities. If a student lacks the necessary background, preparatory courses are available. A full time math para-professional and math faculty provide assistance for all levels of course work.
