Syllabus 0101
| MATH 0101 - Developmental
Math Counselor’s approval required. Credit: 1 An individualized curriculum intended for students who have completed the College developmental math sequence through MATH 0312, but have yet to demonstrate achievement of the appropriate TASP standard. |
| None TASP Remediation |
| This course is designed to provide students with a review of the fundamental math, algebra, and geometry necessary to pass the TASP test. This course may allow students to concentrate on the area in which they feel they need remediation. To receive credit for the course the student should review fundamental mathematics, algebra, and geometry. This course is for students who have passed 0306, 0308, and 0312 but still require state mandated remediation. |
| Different
instructors teach this course every semester. Contact the appropriate
math department to find out who will be teaching the course during the
current semester. The phone numbers are listed below. Central College (713) 718 - 6453 |

| There are no lab requirements for this course. |
| Any student with a documented disability (e.g. physical, learning, psychiatric, vision, hearing, etc.) who needs to arrange reasonable accommodations must contact the Disability Services Office at the respective college at the beginning of each semester. Faculty are authorized to provide only the accommodations requested by the Disability Support Services Office. |
| Students caught cheating in any form are subject to disciplinary action. The minimum punishment is a zero on the exam or quiz or homework. Individual cases may be referred to the appropriate Dean for further action. |

| The instructors always
have their grading policies clearly stated in their syllabi. Also contained
in each syllabus is information regarding what work the student needs
to complete in order to earn a passing grade. Letter grades are
usually assigned as follows: A 90 - 100 B 80 - 89 C 70 - 79 D 60 - 69 F Below 60 |
| Various testing formats(multiple choice, essay, true/false) may be used during the semester. The instructors will let the students know how and when testing will take place. |

| The list of homework problems and/or projects will be provided by the instructor for the current semester. |
| Upon completion of this course,
a student should be able to perform the following mathematics skills:
1. add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and decimals in order to solve problems. 2. use ratio, proportion, percents, and measurement to solve problems. 3. demonstrate correct usage of the concepts of mean, median, and mode. 4. graph points in a plane as well as linear equations using the slope and the y-intercept. 5. solve equations and inequalities and graph the results. 6. factor polynomials using FOIL as well as other specialized techniques. 7. solve quadratic equations. 8. apply the concepts used in algebra to word problems. 9. demonstrate knowledge of congruent, supplementary, and complementary angles. 10. compute results using the Pythagorean theorem and other right triangle problems. 11. compute areas, volumes, and surface areas of geometric solids. 12. produce correct results using proportions. |
| Individual instructors have detailed information about Course Calendar and assignments in their syllabi which are provided at the beginning of the course. The instructors design the assignments for each student depending on which area of TASP needs to be worked on. |
Free tutoring is offered
at each college. The hours vary and you will need to contact the appropriate
college for tutoring hours.
Any student enrolled in Math 0101 at HCC has access to the Learning Resource Center (LRC) where they may get additional help in understanding the theory or improving their skills. The LRC is staffed with mathematics faculty and student assistants, and offers tutorial help, videotapes and computer assisted drills. Also available is a student solutions manual that may be obtained from the bookstore.
