MATH 0101 - Developmental Math Syllabus

Counselor's approval required.
Credit: 1

This course is for students who have passed Math 0306, 0308, and 0312 but still require state mandated remediation. The course is an individualized curriculum intended for students who have completed the College developmental math sequence through MATH 0312, but have yet to demonstrate achievement of the appropriate TASP standard.

This course is designed to provide students with a review of the fundamental math, algebra, and geometry necessary to pass the TASP test. This course may allow students to concentrate on the area in which they feel they need remediation. But to receive credit for the course the student should review fundamental mathematics, algebra, and geometry.

MATH 0102 - Basic Mathematics Syllabus
Credit: 1

This course is designed for students who have tested below Math 0306 and require a self-paced presentation of the basic operations in whole numbers.

It is intended for students who need to study the basic arithmetic operations of whole numbers through an informal approach. The emphasis is for students to become adept at performing the basic mathematical operations of whole numbers and to use those skills in solving problems. This course is designed to improve or strengthen the arithmetic abilities needed in order to proceed to the next mathematics course, Math 0306.

MATH 0105 - Fundamentals of Geometry Syllabus
Credit: 1

This course is basically intended for students who need to study geometry through an informal approach. The emphasis is for students to use formulas, properties and rules to solve geometry problems. An introduction to geometric proofs is also studied.

The course is designed to provide instruction for students who enter the math sequence at Math 0312 or above. Its purpose is to help prepare students for the geometry section of TASP. This course will supply students with some necessary analytical skills for educational or career advancement. It should enhance the mental maturity required in a technologically-oriented society. It should further provide the geometry necessary for students who need to pass the TASP test. It is a flexible developmental math course with respect to the individuals needs. These needs include different mathematical backgrounds as well as flexible time schedules.

MATH 0306 - Fundamentals of Mathematics I Syllabus
Prerequisites: A grade of "C" or better in Math 0102
Placement ASSET: Numerical Skills Raw Score (7–19)
Scaled Score: 30–41
Credit: 3

This course provides students with the basic arithmetical skills enabling them to proceed to the next level mathematics course. It is designed to strengthen many of the skills that an individual must demonstrate or master in order to pass the mandatory TASP Test. It is also intended for those students who are reasonably adept at performing the simple mathematical operations needed in every day affairs, but become quite confused when confronted with the same operations in the context of a mathematics class.

Topics include fundamental operations in whole numbers, fractions and decimals, percents, ratios, proportions, descriptive statistics, and an introduction to the real numbers. All students who enroll in this course are expected to complete MATH 0308 and MATH 0312 in the following consecutive semesters before attempting their first college-level mathematics course (usually MATH 1314-College Algebra). A comprehensive Departmental Final Exam will be given in this course.

MATH 0308 - Fundamentals Of Math II Syllabus
Prerequisites: SAT: 450–499
ASSET: Numerical Skills Raw Score: 19+
Scaled Score: 42+
ASSET: Elementary Algebra Raw Score: 0–13,
Scaled Score: 23–44
Math 0306: Pass with "C" or better
Credit: 3

This course is intended for students who have either never been exposed to algebra or who have been away from the subject for quite some time. Particularly, this course is intended to prepare students for the study of Intermediate Algebra that builds the foundation for the study of College Algebra. It is also for students who require state mandated remediation.

The topics covered include real numbers, basic geometry, polynomials, factoring, linear equations, inequalities, quadratic equations and rational expressions. A departmental final examination must be passed with a score of 60% or more in order to pass the course.

MATH 0312 - Intermediate Algebra Syllabus
Prerequisites: ASSET: Elementary Algebra Raw Score: 14–25
Scaled Score: 45 – 55
ASSET: Intermediate Algebra Raw Score: 0–15,
Scaled Score: 23–45
Math 0308: Pass with "C" or better
Credit: 3

This course is the final course in the developmental mathematics sequence. Its purpose is dual in nature:
  1. to complete the final phase of TASP readiness.
  2. to prepare students for College Algebra.
Topics include factoring techniques, radicals, algebraic fractions, complex numbers, graphing linear equations and inequalities, quadratic equations, systems of equations, graphing quadratic equations and an introduction to functions. Emphasis is placed on algebraic techniques, in order to successfully complete Math 1314 College Algebra. A departmental final examination must be passed with a score of 60% or more in order to pass this course.
