GOVT 2301 AMERICAN GOVERNMENT: NATIONAL, STATE, AND LOCAL I   Syllabus

 

Prerequisites: Must be placed into college-level reading and college-level writing.

 

Credit: 3 (3 lecture)

 

A study of theories of American democracy and other ideologies, United States and Texas constitutions, federalism, state and local government, political economy, political socialization and public opinion, the media, interest groups, and political parties and elections.

GOVT 2302 AMERICAN GOVERNMENT: NATIONAL, STATE, AND LOCAL II  Syllabus

Prerequisites: Must be placed into college-level reading and college-level writing.

 

Credit: 3 (3 lecture)

 

A study of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches ofgovernment at both the nationaland state levels; economic and regulatory policy; social policy; civil liberties and civil rights policy; and foreign policy.

GOVT 2304 INTRODUCTION TO POLITICAL SCIENCE  Syllabus

 

Prerequisites: Must be placed into college-level reading and college-level writing.

 

Credit: 3 (3 lecture)

 

An introduction to the history, scope, and methods of political science. Among the topics covered are the different conceptions of politics and science and the relationships between them, the major controversies over the possibility and shape of political science, and the different approaches employed in the study of politics.

GOVT 2389 COOPERATIVE LEGISLATIVE INTERNSHIP

 

Prerequisite: Completion of GOVT 2301 or GOVT 2302 with a grade of ‘B’ or better, a grade point average of at least 3.0, and

the written recommendation of an HCC government instructor. ; Must be placed into college-level reading and college-level writing.

 

Credit: 3 (1 lecture, 16 lab)

 

An experiential-learning instruction program designed to integrate textbook and classroom knowledge with practical hands-on experience in an applied area of political science. Primary implementation of student activities will occur in pre-selected legislative institutions or other related governmental organizations.
