GEOGRAPHY 1302 CULTURAL GEOGRAPHY

Course Description

A survey of the cultural diversity found on earth. Topics include population, language, religion, ethnicity, and popular culture, with a special focus on spatial attributes and expressions of culture. (This is a core curriculum course.) .

Prerequisites

Prerequisites: Must be placed into college-level reading (or take GUST 0342 as a co-requisite) and be placed into college-level writing (or take ENGL 0310/0349 as a co requisite).

Course Goals (includes competencies, incorporation of SCANS, etc.)

 

Have a better understanding of the world around you.

Read, interpret, analyze and understand maps more readily.

Think critically about how the elements of culture from around the globe influence and shape historical and current events.

Apply geographic knowledge to understanding the backgrounds of diverse populations and to seeking solutions to real-world issues and problems.

Have a stronger understanding of the diversity and interrelationships of social, cultural, political, economic, and physical elements of the landscape..

The Human Mosaicby Terry Jordan-Bychkov and Mona Domosh. Packet includes text and “Exploring Human Geography with Maps” by Margaret Pearce.
