Tutoring
The Developmental English Program includes instructional support in the following areas:
1. Learning Centers: computer labs where students may use either Plato Software (in some colleges), the Focus on Grammar Series, THEA Preparation, or other software to practice writing skills. There are also numerous software programs on CDs which may be checked out by students for use in the labs which provide a wide diversity of writing applications. (Specific CD software choices will vary from college to college and lab to lab.)
2. The Program also provides tutoring by English faculty and/or assistants to provide one-on-one instructional support for students in their writing and courses. In addition, HCCS now has its own online tutoring system, and students can submit papers to online tutors for instruction and feedback. Students should consult their instructors about how to access HCCS Online Tutoring Services.
3. The English 0100 THEA Review Course provides students with additional preparation as needed for THEA and/or English 1301.
4. Publishers for our courses textbooks offer online writing tutorials and writing practice instruction online.
5. Various Developmental English Faculty across our system provide students with opportunities to participate in college writing essay contests, many of which offer cash awards and/or publication.
