ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Students have the opportunity for a comprehensive introduction Anthropology through courses and activities at HCCS. Houston Community College System offers five 3 credit courses: General Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, Physical Anthropology, Introduction to Archaeology, and Co-Op in Anthropology.

Academic Cooperative

*The Academic Cooperative in Anthropology requires previous anthropology course success. In spring 2005, an Archaeology Coop provided students the opportunity to work at the Yates Archaeology Project in Freedman's Town in downtown Houston. This opportunity will be offered again in Spring semester 2006. Ask your professor for information.

Tutoring

Tutoring in Anthropology may be available at a regular time at your campus. Inquire about the policy at your campus through your individual professor. Nonetheless, students are encouraged to seek individual help, counseling or advice from their instructors. Students can form study groups of their own and also request a review session.

LIBRARY RESOURCES
Anthropology Videos
HCCS library has a large collection of "anthropological" videos. Subjects are varied and can range from ethnographic film describing "living" cultures, histories of ancient cultures, anthropologists in the field, studies of language and linguistics, to population genetics, primate behavior, hominid evolution, topics in health, non-violence, global economics, world religions, art and dance, myth and media, and so forth. These are listed in the HCCS library catalogue.

In some cases the videos will be "shelved" at a campus different from the one the student attends. In this case, a student may request that the particular video be delivered to the most convenient site for "in-library viewing".

IN ALL CASES, VIDEOS MAY NOT LEAVE THE HCCS LIBRARY - STUDENT MUST VIEW THE VIDEO ON ONE OF THE VCR MONITORS AVAILABLE IN THE LIBRARY.

Anthropology Texts
Ethnographies and other books on anthropology topics are available to HCCS students. As with the videos, individual books may be "shelved" at another campus. The student may request that the book be delivered to the most convenient HCCS library. Non-reference books can be borrowed with an HCCS student library card.
