Course Description

AGRI 1131 - THE AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRY

An overview of world agriculture, nature of the industry and resource conversion, insight regarding career opportunities in agriculture and natural resources.

Prerequisites

None

Course Goals (includes competencies, incorporation of SCANS, etc.)

  • To aid in the developing of a broader knowledge of agriculture and the roles it plays in everyday lives.
  • To address current issues related to the agricultural realm.
  • To assist in making YOU (the student) a more marketable person in school, business and the industry.
  • To make HCC Agriculture Science department an integral part of the education process.

The student will be required to turn in a computer generated research paper and will also be required to give an oral presentation.

Textbook Information

There is no text, however, we will be using current periodicals to discuss current issues in agriculture.

None

Students with Disabilities

Academic Honesty

Academic dishonesty, CHEATING, will not be tolerated. If an individual is caught, punishment will be taken according to the Student Policies Handbook.

Attendance and Withdrawal Policies

Students are expected to attend classes regularly. Class attendance is checked daily by instructors. Although it is the responsibility of the student to drop a course for non-attendance, the instructor has the authority to drop a student for excessive absences. A student may be dropped from a course for excessive absences after the student has accumulated absences in excess of 12.5% of the hours of instruction (including lecture and laboratory time).

Course Requirements and Grading Policy

Two exams will be given over the course of the semester at a time deemed appropriate by the instructor. Assignments and Participation (25%) + Exams (25%) + Attendance (25%) + Project (25%) = A (100%)

Testing

The tests in this class will be computer generated over materials administered in class.

Various projects may be assigned by instructor.
