1.  I am a high school student, will the Adult High School program still accept me?

-Current high school students are welcomed provided that the class is being taken as credit recovery, that is not being taken for the first time.

2.  I dropped out of high school in the 11th grade, can I still take this program?

-Our program is designed for students who have 2 credits or less to graduate from high school.  Completing only the 11th grade does not make you a candidate for our program.

3.  Does Adult High School issue diplomas?

-The Adult High School program does not issue diplomas.  We issue credits, provided you pass the class, which are then sent to your home high school who issues the diploma

4.  What classes do I need in order to get my diploma?

-If you do not know what classes you need in order to get your diploma you need to talk to the high school which you were last attending.

5.  Can I take both the fall and spring semester parts of the same class in the same semester?

-Students may take both parts of a class (Fall-A, Spring-B) during the same semester provided that the class is not a math, foreign language class, or chemistry.  Students are only allowed to take both parts of math, foreign language, or chemistry if they have previously taken both parts and failed.

6.  When do classes meet?

-All classes meet twice weekly for 3 hours a week for a total of 6 hours of classtime per class.  The only exception is classes that are held on Friday/Saturday/Sunday, they meet for 2 hours 3 days a week.  If a class is a MW class, you will only go Mondays and Wednesdays.       To find the class schedule, follow the instructions at this link at the bottom of page 1 where it says "To View Class Scheudle"

7.  How do I register?

-Registration can be done either online or in person.  To register online please follow the steps for registration on the flyer.  To register for classes in person you will first need to complete an application which allows for a student profile to be created.  That can be done either at home or at the campus where you are registering.   See flyer for list of campuses doing in person registration and for their times.

8.  How do I get grades?

-Grades are available for students to view online (click here for instructions) at anytime once grades are inputted into the system.  Official grades will be sent to the high school register which the student indicated on their application.  We do not send any grades to the student.

9.  How many classes can I take?

-A student can take up to 2 full credits for a semester.  2 full credits is 4 half credit classes.

10.  How many absences can I have?

-Since the semesters are shorter than the average school semester, it is important that you attend every class.  Our policy allows for no more than 7 hours of absences per class.  If you only have a class that meets twice a week each class is 3 hours.  You may miss 2 full classes and an hour of a third class.  For classes that meet three days a week (2 hours per class), you may miss 3 full classes and an hour of the 4th.  Violating our attendance policy will result in the student being dropped.

11.  How much does the Adult High School program cost?

-Each half credit class costs $140 which includes a book.   1 Half credit costs $140, two half credits costs $280, three half credits cost $420 and 4 half credits (the maximum) costs $560.

12.  What steps do I follow in order for me to become a HCC AHS student?

-The steps to register are included on the top of page 2 (Enrollment Process) on the flyer.

13.  How do I pay for classes?

-Students may pay for classes at any HCC campus cashier's office.  Payments can be made in the form of cash/credit/check.  Students may also pay online.

14.  My counselor did not receive my grades, what do I do?

    - Grades are sent to the high school registrar.  Your counselor needs to check with the registrar.

15.  Is there any alternative if I do not meet the requirements?

-The GED program might be a better solution.  To contact the GED department please call (713)-718-5400.
